Service Summary

It is not always easy to maintain a property and for older and disabled people it can be especially hard. Customers may find themselves needing assistance for any one of the following reasons:

The condition of their home has deteriorated.

They are unable to tackle the maintenance of the property themselves.

They are struggling to cope with a property alone following the departure of children or the loss of a partner.

They are experiencing difficulty meeting maintenance and repair costs.

They do not feel well enough to cope with the stress of arrangements.

They are fearful of rogue traders and contractors.

Anchor Staying Put aims to minimise the stresses for homeowners by offering guidance and realistic solutions to these problems.

Each of our agencies offers guidance and assistance to customers who need to repair, improve or adapt their homes. Our service includes:

provision of information on housing and support services provided by others;

provision of technical expertise with building works to their property; and

information on the different ways of paying for the work.

The work we can help with will vary between each agency. However, typical jobs we are often involved with include:

Roofing, chimneys and gutters.

Structural.

Extensions.

Doors and windows.

Damp proofing.

Plumbing.

Rewiring and electrical work.

Insulation.

Heating and gas fire service.

Adaptations including showers, downstairs toilets and downstairs bedrooms.

Security improvements.

Many of our agencies offer additional services that complement the home improvement work. For details about a specific agency you will need to contact them directly. You can find their details by using the Agency Locator.

Safer homes projects bring peace of mind and real security by providing advice and practical help, carrying out surveys and installing security devices.

Small repairs and Handyperson services help with small jobs that contractors are usually not willing to undertake at a reasonable cost and are too awkward for some people to manage. Work that can be undertaken includes minor plumbing and joinery work, fitting electrical plugs and fitting grab rails.

Hospital discharge projects enable older people and people with disabilities to return home from hospital safely after a stay in hospital by appropriately adapting their homes. With the additional benefit of preventing delayed discharge and reducing re-admissions.

Energy efficiency projects focus on improving the energy efficiency of older people's homes. This reduces the problem of 'fuel poverty' for people who are particularly vulnerable to cold or damp housing conditions.
