Most
people want to stay in their own homes as they get older. With the
right practical support, they can. For more than 20 years Anchor
Staying Put has been part of that support. We manage the largest
number of not-for-profit home improvement agencies in England. With
current emphasis on preventative services, we are working in partnership
with local authorities, social services and health authorities to
enable older and disabled homeowners to live independent lives by:
Advising them on repairs, improvements and adaptations to their
properties
Advising them on the local availability of grants, welfare benefits
and giving information on loans and mortgages
Inspecting the works to ensure that it is done to a satisfactory
standard
A
Vital Service
Identified
by the government as a significant tool in supporting older and
disabled people to remain in their own homes, this service can play
a vital part in community care and housing strategies. It is a real
'preventative service' helping people avoid unwanted moves to residential
care and keeping them living in the community.
The
service we provide also has a major impact on improving the housing
stock and on the living conditions affecting older people's health.
There is significant evidence of the link between poor housing and
poor health and we aim to complement the work carried out by housing
and social services departments and health authorities to tackle
this problem.
