  About Us

Anchor Staying Put in Brentwood has been established for 14 years and is a Home Improvement Agency offering valuable assistance to older and disabled people to carry out repairs, improvements and adaptations to their properties.

We work in partnership with Brentwood Borough Council and over the years we have assisted many residents living in Brentwood and the surrounding areas by assisting them to remain in their own homes.

We offer confidential advice, support and assistance. The services we offer are:

Staying Put Core Service

The Staying Put team can assist with medium scale repairs through the grant procedure that is aimed at making your property safe, warm and secure. The Anchor Staying Put fee is incorporated in the grant. If eligible these jobs can be funded by the local authority and include grants for the following:-

  • Affordable Warmth (first time central heating and energy efficient measures).
  • Minor Adaptation (small ramps).
  • Disabled Facility (stair lifts, bathroom conversions to level showers).

In addition we can arrange repayable grants for the following:-

  • Renovations (large scale repairs to bring homes up to government fitness standard).
  • Home Repair Assistance (windows, doors, roofs and electrical re-wires).

We can also assist with large-scale repairs to properties which do not currently meet the government fitness standard. This type of work is generally carried out in conjunction with the local authority grant department.

Private Work

If you prefer, we can also have the work carried out privately. This ensures that you have an approved contractor and our technical officer will oversee the work. The cost is 15% of the pre-vat costs.

Small Repairs Service

This service aims to help with small repairs for older and disabled people living in Brentwood and the surrounding wards. We have a dedicated small repairs technician to carry out these repairs. The costs is £15 per hour plus materials. The type of work that is covered includes:

  • Supplying and fitting keysafes.
  • Grab rails.
  • Smoke detectors.
  • Minor plumbing jobs (e.g. tap washers).
  • Fitting locks, bolts and door chains.
  • Extending telephone lines.
  • Putting up shelves / curtain rails.
  • Minor carpentry repairs.

Other small repairs will be considered on an individual basis.

Gardening Service

The gardening service is for older people over 60 and anyone with a physical disability living in the Borough of Brentwood.

How much will it cost?

£4 an hour if you qualify for a subsidised rate. If it is not subsidised it will cost £12 to £15 per hour dependent on the type of work required.

Who qualifies for the subsided rate?

Those people who are on Council Tax (not the 25% single occupancy) benefit qualify for the subsidised rate.

How does it work?

If you qualify for the subsided rate you will be allocated twelve vouchers per year. Each voucher entitles you to up to one hour of gardening and you then pay the gardener £4 for each voucher used. It is up to you how many you use and when you use them for example you may choose to use most of them in the summer months.

If you are not on benefits?

We can still assist you by allocating you one of our approved gardeners and monitoring the work that is carried out. The only cost is £10 for the annual registration fee which helps to fund the administrations costs and £12 per hour for the gardening.
