  About Us

We know that many older people want to stay in their own home, as they get older. This is what you tell us, and with the right advice, support and assistance to keep your property repaired and maintained, you can. You might know that there is increasing emphasis by central and local Government and the Health Service on “preventative” services to enable you to remain at home, and there are proven benefits to this approach.

Anchor Staying Put Birmingham exists to assist older people to “stay put” at home if that is what you want, and we provide a range of advice and support to enable that to happen.

If you are aged over 60, we can provide a full survey, assessment and technical service to help you manage refurbishment and repair work on your home, as well as offering assistance in finding the funds to pay for these works. We find reputable building contractors to carry out the work on your home, and we fully inspect the work before you pay for it.

Our assistance includes no-obligation introduction to not-for-profit companies who help with appropriate finance such as No-Risk Equity Release Loans. Many of you, of course, are able to find the funds from your own savings or from family members; there is obviously no obligation to take out any loan.

What is a “Home Improvement Agency”?

A Home Improvement Agency offers a comprehensive service to enable essential repair and refurbishment work in your home, and helps to manage the whole process.
Anchor Staying Put Birmingham was originally set up in 1981, to assist older people and people with disabilities to improve their homes.

We are one of the original members of the Birmingham Home Improvement Partnership, which also includes Birmingham City Council, the Home Improvement Trust, ART Homes Ltd., and the Black Country Housing Group. In 2001, Birmingham City Council moved from offering grants for this work to asking all homeowners to pay for the work themselves.
